Carol Berman, Visual Art

Carol Berman has been a potter for more than 20 years. For most of those years, she has studied pottery with Jill Hinckley, whose studio is located across the street from the Sitar Center. Carol also has taken ceramics classes at Creative Clay Studios in Alexandria, Virginia, at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, Colorado, and at a private studio in Bethesda, Maryland. Carol creates decorative, functional earthenware pots in her home studio. For the past five years, Carol has produced the award bowls for Vital Voices Global Partnership, an organization that honors women leaders. She has had an eclectic career that included being a speech and language pathologist, conducting advocacy skills training, serving as the first Executive Director of the National Council on the Handicapped, and until retirement seven years ago, was Associate Director of Zero to Three, the National Center for Infants, Toddlers and Families. Since retirement, she has been a mentor in the D.C. Public Schools, president of her condominium board, and now, a volunteer at The Patricia M. Sitar Center, where 2006 marked her first year teaching ceramics.
