Chitra Subramanian grew up in Pittsburgh and has been teaching hip-hop dance
classes for over 5 years. She was formally trained in Bharathanatyam, a South
Indian dance style, for over 10 years. Chitra completed her MA in Arts Management
at American University, and is currently working at Mentors of Minorities in
Education, a nonprofit youth organization in Columbia Heights, DC. Chitra has
taught classes at DC Dance Collective, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Facilitating
Leadership in Youth, City Dance Center, and the Patricia M. Sitar Center for
the Arts. She has also choreographed for community-based theater performances
and has conducted hip-hop dance workshops at various schools and youth organizations.
