For students entering 1st to 7th grade who like to paint, dance, sculpt, play an instrument, write or all of the above, Camp Sitar’s Visual & Performing Arts Program is a great place to spend the summer. Students have the opportunity each session to choose classes that match their interests in the visual and performing art, from dance and web design, to collage art and percussion.
Camp Sitar includes three 2-week sessions. Students can register for individual sessions or for the whole 6-weeks. Camp Sitar is from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, during which students will choose three hour-long classes. Snack is provided daily. Each session will include one trip or activity, such as a field trip to the Corcoran Museum of Art or the National Arboretum or a field day or scavengar hunt.

Visual Art
Printmaking – Creating Art by drawing pictures and designs on one surface and transferring to another to make multiple prints of the same design.
Crafts – Students will use a variety of art materials, including paper mache, tissue paper, watercolor, etc. to create pictures and 3 – dimensional objects,
Sculpture – Sculptures can be made of different materials such as plaster, clay, art dough and wood to create a free standing piece of art.
Clay Art – This class will focus on manipulating clay to create forms and objects.
Pottery – Pottery includes the use of specific techniques to create bowls and other functional objects.
Drawing – Students will use different materials to draw and sketch different objects.
Portraits – This class will teach the students how to recreate themselves in a portrait, using materials not limited to paint.
Mold making – Students will use and create molds that they will use to make art.
Digital Art
T-Shirt Design – Students will use the computer to create a design that can be transferred to a T-shirt.
Cartoon Design – This class will learn how to design and bring to life their own cartoon character ideas.
Graphic Design – Students will use Adobe Photoshop to learn to manipulate objects on the computer to use for their designs.
Magazine Design – Students will learn the process of creating a popular magazine from articles to images.
Creative Writing
Fairytales – Students can create their own fairytale character and story. They decide what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story.
My Soap Opera – Students have the chance to get their own drama on paper. The class will learn how to make their everyday stories even more exciting.
Bed Time Stories – Students can create their own stories for bedtime, make them more exciting or include ideas to help them go to sleep faster, or Not!
Superhero Stories – In this class each student gets to become their own superhero, create their powers and their weaknesses and decide who gets away.
Dance
Dance Ensemble – This is a group dance class that will involve, hip hop, jazz, modern and a lot of fun.
Music
Percussion Ensemble – Student will learn how to use conga drums this summer and tap to the beat.
Visual Art
Landscape Painting – Learn how to paint different landscapes, mix colors, use foreground and background and other painting terms and techniques.
Sculpture – Sculptures can be made of different materials such as plaster, clay, art dough and wood to create a free standing piece of art.
Ceramics – Learn different techniques to manipulate clay to create a variety of sculptural creations.

T–Shirt Design – Students will use the computer to create a design that can be transferred to a T–shirt.
Creative Writing
Myths & Tales – Learn how to put together a creative story about unknown and mysterious legends
Comic Strip Writing – Students will learn how to write for a comic book style story.
Spoken Word – Writing stories is the first step, this class will give you the edge to tell your story convincingly.
Movie Scripts – Learn how to write for the movies, create characters, and write their lines.
Comedy Writing – This class will focus on writing for stand up comedy, and other comedic plots.
Dance
Dance Ensemble – This is a group dance class that will involve, hip hop, jazz, modern and a lot of fun.
Music
Music Instrument Mania – Each session this class will focus on a new set of instruments and a learn how to play them as a group.
Band – Students in this small band will learn how to play a Rock piece this summer. Students can be beginners to intermediate.
Percussion Ensemble – Students will learn how to use conga drums this summer and tap to the beat.
