Dance, Drama, Art, Creative Writing, Multimedia, and Digital Arts Instructor

Job Description The instructor submits a course description, syllabus and list of supply needs for lessons/classes and prepares and teaches a class once a week in the area of his/her discipline. The instructor also maintains discipline in the classroom and upholds Sitar Arts Center rules, monitors and evaluates student progress in class, provides positive feedback on the student’s progress, encourages the student’s continued focus on artistic excellence, takes attendance and reports attendance, educational, or behavioral problems to Director of Students or Director of Programs, directs students in clean-up/maintenance of their classroom, and fulfills all volunteer requirements
Minimum Qualifications The instructor should have a deep appreciation for the arts with at least 3 years of educational training/ professional experience in his/her artistic field, have a strong desire to share that experience with children, and have a strong commitment to diversity and community.
Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching and working with children

Position Duration Instructors will serve for one semester of classes. Instructors are eligible to continue in the following session with the approval of the Director of Programs/Volunteer Coordinator.

Notes Those new to teaching or new to working with children are welcomed at Sitar Arts Center, as it is a learning place for all. New teachers have many options which include co-teaching and assistant teaching as well as being the lead instructor in a class. New teachers can also request to be matched with a more experienced teacher for advice on teaching issues and curriculm development.
