Music
Instrumental and vocal music provides an outlet for individual
and ensemble performance. Students have an opportunity to build
skills like teamwork while playing and singing with other students,
and they develop the ability to work through a variety of situations
as they develop the technique on their individual instruments.
Music at the Sitar Center
Instruments include acoustic and
bass guitar, cello, clarinet, drums, flute, harp, piano, saxophone,
trombone, trumpet, violin, and viola.
Lessons provide developing musicians
an opportunity to advance in their musical ability and creativity
at their own pace. Individual lessons also create a relationship
of respect and trust between the student and teacher. Lessons are
taught by volunteers from the community.
Jazz Bands provide an opportunity
for more advanced music students to further develop their musical
abilities, especially ear training, rhythm, and improvisational
skills.
Ensembles provide the opportunity
to further develop musical abilities, especially ear training and
rhythm. In addition, ensembles promote teamwork, camaraderie, and
accountability among participating students.
Music Theory provides a formal
background that enables students to pursue and increase their skills
in both instrumental and choral music. Theory-teaching software
and MIDI technology also provide additional practice and drill activities
for musicians.
