CityDance Ensemble, Washington's preeminent modern dance company,
teaches a modern dance class at the Sitar Center each week through
its Early Arts outreach program. There are eight students in the
teen dance class, which began in the Fall 2003 semester. The addition
of a modern dance class is a key step in realizing the Sitar Center's
goal of offering more classes for teenage students.
The modern dance class, taught by CityDance Ensemble dancer and
instructor Reginald Cole, became an instant favorite. The class
meets at the Festival Center, around the corner from the Sitar Center,
because there is not enough space in the Center's current location.
The dedication and excitement of Reggie and the students has helped
to keep the class connected to the Center while operating in a separate
location.
The modern dance class will perform for the first time in the Sitar
Center's annual winter concert on January 24, 2004. CityDance Ensemble
will also perform during the concert in order for more Sitar Center
students to learn about modern dance and experience the artistry
and quality of this celebrated company. The Sitar Center looks forward
to strengthening this valuable partnership in its new home.
