Alumni Spotlight: Dinda Nugroho

Our most recent installation of Alumni Boards at Sitar Arts Center fills our hallways with feelings of belonging and aspirations for artistic futures. This new wave of featured alumni has encouraged much inspiration amongst our community, and has enlightened our young artists about the possibilities of creative careers. For our latest Alumni Spotlight, we caught up with featured alumna, musician, and Sitar’s newest Grant Coordinator, Dinda Nugroho, about her evolving connection to music.

What’s your passion?

DN: Music is my passion! There’s just not enough time in the world to listen to all the music on Spotify.

What motivates you and your work?

DN: Nowadays, music transcends more than one genre. You can create a song that one person can label as pop but another person can call R&B. There’s always something new that’s wanting to be created.

“Everyone has their own gifts and talents and that’s what makes everyone’s art so unique and so different from yours.”

Why are art and community engagement important to you?

DN: Community engagement is so important to me because you get to see what other artists are up to and it’s so inspiring. Everyone has their own gifts and talents and that’s what makes everyone’s art so unique and so different from yours. Not in a bad way though! Not one art is going to be the same and that’s okay!
