Summer Arts Intensive

Summer Arts Intensive

Session 1 — June 25th – July 12th, 3 weeks

Classes Meet Monday – Thursday, 4:15 pm – 6:15 pm.

Performance and Art Opening – July 12, 2018- 6:30 pm

Session 1 is a collaborative project intensive. Students choose an intensive focus, and will work together with others enrolled towards a final performance project. The performance and the promotion of the performance will all be done by the students in the project. The student artists will decide what type of performances they want to have and how they will promote it. For example, the digital arts students and the studio arts students may work together to design posters or t-shirts about the performance. Students will meet 1-2 times a week to discuss ideas and progress of the project.

Session 1 Arts Intensive Options

2D Design StudioArtists will learn a variety of ways to create works of art from printmaking and painting to refining compositions and preparing their work for exhibition. Artists will work with other visual arts classes to collaborate and create promotional items to market the end of session performance, in addition to collaborations with other artists for final project ideas.

Art on the Set! Design LabArtists are working to meet the deadline for the summer musical when creating the backdrop and props. Artists will learn about set design, how props are used and see their work in action in the show at the end of the six week rehearsal period.

Summer Band BootcampMusicians will learn to play a song with musical instruments. Drums, keyboard, brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice and string instruments. This is an opportunity for artists to be in an ensemble, play as a group and how to perform in front of an audience. Musicians work collectively with the instructor to learn and build on the songs that will be performed.

Feel the Rhythm! Dance WorkshopDancers will learn different dance styles and work with their instructor in the choreography of a piece that will be part of the final performance. Dancers will also collaborate with the musicians and other artists for the final performance.

Digital Design Studio Designers will learn different methods of creating such as digital photography, Adobe Photoshop, coding, and how to shoot and edit video. Designers will collaborate with other visual artists about promotional materials for the final performance, in addition to collaborations with other artists for final project ideas.

 

Spoken Word Poetry Slam! Writers and Poets, will work independently and collaboratively to learn, produce and perform spoken word pieces that will be drawn from the experiences of other writers and styles of writing and performing work. In addition, writers and poets will work with other artists to create final pieces and promotional pieces for marketing the show.

 

Session 2 — July 16th – July 26th, 2 weeks

Classes meet Monday – Thursday, 4:15 pm – 6:15 pm.

Teen Café Series and Art Opening- July 26, 2018- 6:30 pm

Session 2 is intensive study. Students will choose one intensive program of focus. Artists can also collaborate with other classes or artists for their final project. There will be a final performance and opportunity to exhibit final art work at the end of the session.

 

Session 2 Arts Intensive Options

3D Masters Lab Artists will create 3D works learning about pottery, recycled art, carving, building and other methods and sources of creating work based on the focus of the class and direction from the instructor. Artists will explore work created by other artists and create their own pieces using similar styles.

Beats Lab: Producing and SpinningMusicians will learn and build on techniques of producing music and working turntables. Musicians will put their knowledge to the test by creating music samples and playlists, as well as learning about how to promote themselves as musicians. Musicians will showcase their skills at the final performance.

Darkroom Photography WorkshopArtists will develop their understanding of how to compose and shoot with 35mm film, enlarge and develop work. Students will use the community as their canvas to create images that capture the audience.

Lyricists LoungeSong Writing and Sound Design Writers will write your songs and record them with special effects. Perform your final pieces for your classmates and friends.

Script Writing LabWork with Young Playwrights Theater staff to develop your own original plays. Learn playwriting techniques on how to create character, and incorporate suspense, action, and pause and engage the audience. Prepare yourself to be the next great writer for the stage or beyond.
