At Camp Sitar’s visual and performing arts camp, choose to paint a portrait, dance, sculpt, play the guitar, write a comic book, design a t-shirt or all of the above. Camp Sitar is from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm for entire six week period! Students in grades K-7 explore a variety of visual and performing arts including dance, music, drama, visual arts, creative writing and graphic arts. Students entering Kindergarten may only register for the moring sessions.
In addition to classes, students take trips to cultural institutions like museums, Meridian International Center, The Mexican Cultural Institute, Imagination Stage and The National Museum of the American Indian and participate in fun activities like field day, student performances, trips to the zoo, visits to the park and an end-of-camp carnival.
For students who like to sing, dance, and act, Camp Sitar’s summer musical provides the opportunity to put on an exciting, Broadway-style musical under professional direction and design. Students experience all aspects of mounting a full length musical from auditioning to rehearsal to final performance. Past productions have included Beauty and the Beast, Willy Wonka, Jr., You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Hello, Dolly, Bye Bye Birdie, Guys and Dolls, and The Wiz! The 2015 musical will be Hairspray!
The cast of the musical attends Camp Sitar from 1:00 pm–4:15 pm daily for six weeks. Students must audition to be part of the musical and have to be currently in 4th-11th grades and available for the entire six-week session, including the five final performances. Students who meet the age requirements may combine the Summer Musical with the morning sessions of Camp Sitar or with the Teen Arts Intensive.
Teen Arts Intensive
The Teen Visual and Performing Arts Intensive offers a higher level of classes in graphic design, music production, photography, fashion, dance and more. Students in grades 8-12 choose from intensive classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:15 pm–6:15 pm. Teens can opt to participate in the Teen Intensive and the summer musical.
Youth ages 14 - 21 may also be eligible to apply for Sitar's Summer Internships. Click here for information on Summer Internships.
