Calling All Young Filmmakers!

Sitar is excited to announce its inaugural film festival – SET IN DC!

The Set IN DC Film Festival will showcase and celebrate the diverse, lived experiences of DC area youth; their backgrounds, communities, friends, families, and most importantly their perspective. Anything that makes DC home. 

WHO IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE: 

• Youth filmmakers in the DMV between the ages of 11-18 years old.

CRITERIA: 

• Films must be created by a 11-18 year old filmmaker.
• Must be shot and set in Washington, D.C.
• Films should be 2-10 minutes long.
• Films should highlight one or more of the following values of Sitar:
  • Foster Belonging – Foster belonging by engaging, supporting, and celebrating our diverse community members through genuine and meaningful relationships.    
  • Embed Equity – Embed equity in our systems, programs, and spaces to advance social justice.    
  • Build Trust – Build trust by assuming positive intentions and taking ownership of our words, actions, responsibilities, and commitments.    
  • Encourage Collaboration – Encourage collaboration with thoughtful and clear communication, a curious mind, and a creative spirit.     
  • Inspire Transformation – Inspire transformation by listening to, learning from, and growing with our community and the world around us.     
  • Prioritize Balance – Prioritize balance between the mental, emotional, physical, and creative well-being within ourselves and our fellow community members.  

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR FILM: 

• Filmmakers under 18 must obtain written parental/guardian consent for submission and participation. 
• Upload your film to a file-sharing platform like Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, or SharePoint, and add a link to your film’s file to your application form. Please ensure that the link’s permission allows Sitar to download the file. 
• Please submit your film(s) through the online application form (email submissions will not be accepted):
• Submission deadline is Monday, April 22, 2024.

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

• All films will be peer reviewed by an initial jury of Sitar’s Emerging Arts Leaders to determine entry into the festival.
• Once reviewed, all films will be judged by professional filmmakers and critics. 
• Films will be judged based on adherence to submission criteria, originality, and storytelling. 
• Filmmakers will be notified of acceptance by May 13, 2024. 

PRIZES: 

• First Prize – $250  
• Second Prize – $175 
• Third Prize – $100 

FILM FESTIVAL SHOWCASE:

Films will be shown on May 30, 2024, at Sitar Arts Center at 1700 Kalorama Rd NW, STE 101 Washington, DC 20009, from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. All accepted filmmakers and their families are encouraged to attend. 

FILM FESTIVAL ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS 

• Film Content: Sitar Arts Center reserves the right to exclude any film that contains inappropriate content harmful to children under 18. Inappropriate content includes, but is not limited to, profanity, violence, sexual content, or any content deemed harmful to minors. 
• Film Usage: Filmmakers retain ownership rights to their films. Sitar does not claim ownership of submitted films. Sitar Arts Center is granted the right to use submitted films solely for the following purposes: Promotion of the Film Festival (pre- and post-festival); screening the films during the festival on May 30, 2024; educational purposes related to the festival (e.g., workshops, student outreach programs). Sitar Arts Center will not use any films for commercial purposes without explicit written consent from the filmmaker(s). The aforementioned usage rights are granted for a period of one year following the festival. 
• Filmmaker Information: Filmmakers grant Sitar Arts Center permission to use information (e.g., name, bio) submitted with the entry form in festival promotional materials and programs.
• Publicity Rights: Filmmakers may use Sitar Arts Center invitation and promotional materials to promote their film’s participation in the festival, provided Sitar Arts Center is properly credited. Any edits or alterations to Sitar Arts Center’s promotional materials require written approval. 

Sitar Arts Center reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time.

Sitar se complace en anunciar su primer festival de cine: ¡SET IN DC!

El Festival de Cine SET IN DC mostrará y celebrará las diversas experiencias vividas por los jóvenes del área de DC; sus orígenes, comunidades, amigos, familias y, lo que es más importante, su perspectiva. Todo lo que hace de DC su hogar. 

QUIÉN ESTÁ INVITADO A PARTICIPAR:

• Jóvenes cineastas del DMV de 11 a 18 años 

CRITERIA: 

• Las películas deben ser creadas por cineastas de 11 a 18 años.
• Deben rodarse y ambientarse en Washington, D.C. 
• Las películas deben durar entre 2 y 10 minutos 
• Las películas deben destacar uno o varios de los siguientes valores del Sitar:
  • Fomentar la Pertenencia – Fomentar la pertenencia mediante la participación, el apoyo y la celebración de la diversidad de los miembros de nuestra comunidad a través de relaciones genuinas y significativas.        
  • Integrar la Equidad – Integrar la equidad en nuestros sistemas, programas y espacios para promover la justicia social.    
  • Generar Confianza – Generar confianza asumiendo intenciones positivas y haciéndonos cargo de nuestras palabras, acciones, responsabilidades y compromisos. 
  • Fomente la Colaboración – Fomente la colaboración con una comunicación reflexiva y clara, una mente curiosa y un espíritu creativo.    
  • Inspirar la Transformación – Inspirar la transformación escuchando, aprendiendo y creciendo con nuestra comunidad y el mundo que nos rodea.        
  • Priorizar el Equilibrio – Priorizar el equilibrio entre el bienestar mental, emocional, físico y creativo en nosotros mismos y en los miembros de nuestra comunidad

CÓMO PRESENTAR SU PELÍCULA: 

• Los cineastas menores de 18 años deben obtener el consentimiento escrito de sus padres o tutores para la presentación y participación. 
• Cargue su película a una plataforma de intercambio de archivos como Box, Dropbox, Google Drive o SharePoint, y añada un enlace al archivo de su película en el formulario de envío. Asegúrese de que el permiso del enlace permite a Sitar descargar el archivo.
• Envíe su(s) película(s) en línea (no se aceptarán envíos por correo electrónico) a través de la siguiente aplicación: 
• La fecha límite de presentación es el lunes 22 de abril de 2024

CRITERIOS DE SELECCIÓN:

• Todas las películas serán revisadas por un jurado inicial de líderes artísticos emergentes de Sitar para determinar su entrada en el festival.  
• Una vez revisadas, todas las películas serán juzgadas por cineastas y críticos profesionales.
• Las películas se valorarán en función de los criterios de presentación, la originalidad y la narración.
• Se notificará a los cineastas la aceptación antes del 13 de mayo de 2024.

PREMIOS:

• Primer Premio – $250  
• Segundo Premio – $175 
• Tercer Premio – $100 

MUESTRA DEL FESTIVAL DE CINE

Las películas se proyectarán el 30 de mayo de 2024 en el Sitar Arts Center, 1700 Kalorama Rd NW, STE 101 Washington, DC 20009, de 18.00 a 20.00 horas. Se servirán refrescos. Se anima a asistir a todos los cineastas aceptados y a sus familias. 

CONDICIONES ADICIONALES DEL FESTIVAL DE CINE 

• Contenido de las películas: Sitar Arts Center se reserva el derecho de excluir cualquier película que contenga contenidos inapropiados y perjudiciales para los menores de 18 años. Los contenidos inapropiados incluyen, entre otros, blasfemias, violencia, contenido sexual o cualquier contenido considerado perjudicial para los menores. Los cineastas son responsables de obtener los derechos necesarios para cualquier música, efectos de sonido u otro material protegido por derechos de autor que se utilice en sus películas
• Uso de las películas: Los cineastas conservan los derechos de propiedad de sus películas. Sitar no reclama la propiedad de las películas presentadas. Se concede al Sitar Arts Center el derecho a utilizar las películas presentadas únicamente para los siguientes fines: Promoción del Festival de Cine (antes y después del festival); proyección de las películas durante el festival el 30 de mayo de 2024; fines educativos relacionados con el festival (por ejemplo, talleres, programas de divulgación para estudiantes). El Centro Artístico Sitar no utilizará ninguna película con fines comerciales sin el consentimiento explícito y por escrito del realizador o realizadores. Los derechos de uso mencionados se conceden por un periodo de un año tras el festival. 
• Información sobre el cineasta: Los cineastas autorizan al Sitar Arts Center a utilizar la información (por ejemplo, nombre, biografía) enviada con el formulario de inscripción en los materiales promocionales y programas del festival.  
• Derechos de publicidad: Los cineastas podrán utilizar la invitación y los materiales promocionales del Sitar Arts Center para promocionar la participación de su película en el festival, siempre que se cite debidamente al Sitar Arts Center. Cualquier edición o alteración de los materiales promocionales del Sitar Arts Center requerirá la aprobación por escrito. 

Sitar Arts Center se reserva el derecho a modificar estas condiciones en cualquier momento.
