Set in DC Film Festival
Calling All Young Filmmakers!
Sitar Arts Center is excited to present its 2026 Set in DC Film Festival, “The Unknown: Inspiring Transformation During Times of Uncertainty.”
Throughout our lives, we are faced with the unknown. Though we have no control over what lies ahead, we can choose to act on hope, fear, acceptance or any other emotion. We invite films that explore individual or collective transformation in times of uncertainty.
Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your work on the big screen at Sitar Arts Center in Washington, D.C.!
WHO IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE:
- Youth filmmakers in the DMV between the ages of 10-24 years old.
CRITERIA:
- Films must be shot and set in Washington, D.C.
- Films must be no longer than 15 minutes
- Films should be related to the theme of “The Unknown: Inspiring Transformation During Times of Uncertainty.”
- Film subject matter and content must be appropriate for a community of ALL ages (PG)
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR FILM:
- Sitar Arts Center proudly accepts entries on FilmFreeway, the world’s #1 way to enter film festivals and creative contests.
- Submission deadline is Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
SUBMISSION NOTICE:
By submitting a film, the filmmaker affirms that this is their original work and that it is being submitted for review by Sitar Arts Center’s selection committee. Films will be viewed only by authorized staff and jurors during the selection process.
If a film is selected for screening or promotion, a parent or legal guardian will be required to sign a participation and media release before the film can be publicly shared.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- All films will be peer reviewed by an initial jury of Sitar’s Emerging Arts Leaders to determine entry into the festival.
- Once reviewed, all films will be judged by professional filmmakers and critics.
- Films will be judged based on adherence to submission criteria, originality, and storytelling.
- Filmmakers will be notified of acceptance by April 30, 2026.

Winning films will be featured during select summer 2026 screenings of Adams Morgan Movie Nights, hosted by the Adams Morgan Partnership BID.
FILM FESTIVAL:
Films will be shown on May 8, 2026, at Sitar Arts Center at 1700 Kalorama Rd NW, STE 101 Washington, DC 20009, from 6-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. All accepted filmmakers and their families are encouraged to attend.
FILM FESTIVAL ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Film Content: Sitar Arts Center reserves the right to exclude any film that contains inappropriate content harmful to children under 18. Inappropriate content includes, but is not limited to, profanity, violence, sexual content, or any content deemed harmful to minors. Filmmakers are responsible for obtaining the necessary rights to any music, sound effects, or other copyrighted material used in their films.
- Film Usage: Filmmakers retain ownership rights to their films. Sitar does not claim ownership of submitted films. Sitar Arts Center is granted the right to use submitted films solely for the following purposes: Promotion of the Film Festival (pre- and post-festival); screening the films during the festival on May 8, 2026; educational purposes related to the festival (e.g., workshops, student outreach programs). Sitar Arts Center will not use any films for commercial purposes without explicit written consent from the filmmaker(s).
- Filmmaker Information: Filmmakers grant Sitar Arts Center permission to use information (e.g., name, bio) submitted with the entry form in festival promotional materials and programs.
- Publicity Rights: Filmmakers may use Sitar Arts Center invitation and promotional materials to promote their film’s participation in the festival, provided Sitar Arts Center is properly credited. Any edits or alterations to Sitar Arts Center’s promotional materials require written approval.
Sitar Arts Center reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time.

AVISO DE PRESENTACIÓN:
Al presentar una película, el cineasta afirma que se trata de una obra original y que se envía para su revisión por parte del comité de selección del Sitar Arts Center. Las películas solo serán visionadas por personal autorizado y miembros del jurado durante el proceso de selección.
Si una película es seleccionada para su proyección o promoción, se requerirá que un padre o tutor legal firme un consentimiento de participación y autorización de uso de imagen antes de que la película pueda ser compartida públicamente.
CRITERIOS DE SELECCIÓN:
